Douglas Greed – Beuys Don’t Cry

cs345987-01a-bigFreude At Tanzem is certainly one of the greatest labels of all time in the kind of music that minimaland usually supports. They still release almost every thing produced by Wighnomy Brothers and also artists like Marek Hemmann, Mathias Kaden, Kadebostan and Douglas Greed. This last producer just released his new Ep called “Beuys Don’t Cry” and, on FAT’s first appearance during 2009, Douglas came out with a brilliant performance. In his new 12″ he presents 4 tracks full of quality and passion. “If this…” is the first one and starts with a rather pumpy groove transmitting a danceable vibe. The percussive elements are some of the best you may listen nowadays, tech housy feelings all over the place. The 2nd track is the “Chessbet” appealing more to melodic moments, with some acid patterns that will turn your brain completely messed up. The feeling on this one is huge and you’ll definitely feel the incredible vibe this piece or art transmits.  “Animals Will Only Come To You If You Feel Them” turns the paths to darker and heavier roots, appealing to your deepest feelings in those kind of tracks that will make the dancefloors mad… this one is to enjoy at open spaces, to float around between a nocturnal melody and some amazing percussion that are present in this amazing groove. Feel it! “A Life Full of Handshakes” closes down the path, in a dark dubbed style.

Re-Up aka OEL&Polygon – We Lost The Flight

“The prolific Italian music scene welcomes a new project signed by Leo & Omar Omv called Re-UP. Djs since over 10 years Leo and Omar used to be residents in some of the most underground parties of the north of Italy. They started composing in 2004 and moved to Barcelona in 2007. Named as OEL&Polygon, they reached Top positions in Charts with their 3 tracks “Instinto primario”, “Sexophonia” and “Dexter”. Today, the already tested duo is ready to come back under the name of Re-UP.” Microfibres is a label conducted by Marc Antona, an artist we admire in the minimal land.

re-upIn the a-side “We Lost The Flight” denotes great quality. A deep, throbbing bassline at its core, with well placed pauses and an incredible sense of progression. Worked in all the frequencys, more dark minimal touched, haves the gift to put us back into older times. The alarm, and slap bass in the final break are placed near to perfection.b-side “Every Night” kicks things up a gear. Techno beats orientated, with an injection of old-school, it skips along easily. Drived and more crowd orientated background synth stabs, vocal samples enter to complete the path. Progressive, this track keeps us slaming back to the floor with its rotund bassline,  good crowd maker.Rounding off the package is the digital only tr “Bistrack”. For us maybe the best track on the Ep and its only on digital, what a shame! Great evolution from the start till the end with traditional ethnic drums combined together in a fitted construction, detailed in all frequencys ranges. Progressive, relies on drums games and playings, melding it into rolling techie beats.

Minimaland Feedback:Great tracks, Great release!

Support from Josh Wink, Martin Eyerer, Marco Resmann, Luciano, Adam Beyer, Stephan Bodzin, Monika Kruse, Pig & Dan, Marco Carola, DJ Hell, Hernan Cattaneo, only to name a few…

Popof – Head Cleaner

Wow. Not even one day since the great Kolombo release appeared and we’re just synched again, at the same time, with another finest release. Perhaps at the same time, 2009 its making its definitions and marks along the path. In the minimal land we do not need any presentations, to find out more about Popof and check out our bets, try our review on his Ep “Summer on Mars” or discogs database.

This release, maybe by coincidence (?!), its released trough A.F.U. (Acid Fuckers Unite), label run by Thomas Peter Heckmann, a guy we can consider as a hidden Guru among the minimal land in its hypnotiest recycled horizons . As E.g. Heckmann&Gecko – Out of mind (1999).Looking at this combination triggered an anxiety belly feeling since other releases.

popof-head-cleaner-hi-res“Advice. Whilst listening to this Ep, your brain can be fried or excited and exercised with the flashed patterns; paranoid drives or recycled driving delusions “ seems to be the warning appropriated to this brain recycling.

The treatment sets up with “Mr. Orange”, and you’re feeling normal until the energy strokes and you’re kicked into this warped bass line and neurotic rhythms path, conducting to an unstopping chain of peaks and inter-connected waves… Hypnotized and still in shock you enter the final treatment with a “Head Cleaner” operated by Popof to wipe your head out and connect proper installments to neurons receptors. While “Mr. Orange” drive all your senses to energized psychotic ways, “Head Cleaner” wipe your head out and pursues the chaos reconstruction with more clear and progressive rhythm, featuring as well the same base and carrying a general feeling that the boost it’ll not stop.

Besides these are two amazing tracks and you’ll always be thinking “which side?”, I must denote they request some previous warming cause they’ll blast any dance floor to its limits and may be misunderstood in a “young” dance floor context… Definitely a MUST have Ep!

Len Faki – Berghain 03

berghain-03coverThere aren’t many DJs who embody euphoric raving, moments fraught with happiness and electric discharges onto the dancefloor, as Len Faki does. What has been reserved for dancers at Berghain and other international clubs, is now available on CD for the first time ever. ‘Berghain 03′ is a display of Faki’s mastery at its most compact and intense. Unlike a recording from a clubnight, this CD concentrates all aspects and tonalities of Len’s extensive sets at Berghain on 77 minutes. Len takes the listener on a journey, or rather an odyssey: At the beginning one is sucked into a hypnotic techno sound gradually developing a more and more intoxicating, electrifying and dramatic dynamic. Len Faki’s exclusive contribution ‘BX 3′ marks a first euphoric highlight being absorbed by Radioslave’s dubby undertones of ‘Neverending’, another exclusive track on this mix, followed by Basement Jaxx’ disco house transporting the euphoric atmosphere to a new frisky level. Towards the end Jerome Sydenham’s and Dennis Ferrer’s ‘Timbuktu’ adds a spiritual depth underlined by Burial’s remix of Bloc Party’s ‘Where Is Home?’ as a perfect closing track.

Having moved to Berlin in 2002 Len Faki took a creative break in order to restart as a DJ and musician. He became a resident at Berghain and launched his new labels Figure and Podium on which he released a series of excellent 12“s. The highlights of his own output were ‘Mekong Delta’ on Ostgut Ton and ‘My Black Sheep’ on Podium.

For anyone who experienced Len Faki internationally as a peaktime DJ or who only know him for his productions, the second, more house-y part of ‘Berghain 03′ might come as a surprise, as this aspect of his DJing has so far been reserved to his marathons at Berghain. But Faki rises to the special challenge of presenting such a set during the length of a CD, without suffering the loss of the broad stylistic range of such a night. Being able to show that it’s still possible to bring oppositional tracks into a coherent context on this mix has been a task close to Len’s heart. As a matter of fact, this is the main theme of ‘Berghain 03′. Techno and house don’t appear as antagonists here, but rather are the manifestations of the same emotive erruptions. By changing styles Len Faki reveals connections you can feel. By layering the tracks for very long periods they all appear in a new light.

In spite of the stylistic openness, ‘Berghain 03′ is still a techno mix. For Len Faki, techno is the music of happiness. The energy of the dancefloor feeds back to the turntables and creates a loop driving dancers into ecstasy, bedazzling listeners during the course of 20 tracks; from John Beltran’s orchestral sounds to Burial’s fey Dubstep.

Minimaland Feedback: Another brilliant release by Ostgut Ton with Len Faki delivering a real massive techno mix, no fails, no flaws, clean mixes, great tracklist… If you like the underground movement you’ll surely like this, dark as hell with non stopping rhythm, techno is back people, it’s time to rave! A must have.. btw: Len Faxi – Bx3 is the best techno track i listened for a long time.

Kolombo – Sniff Ep

cs342650-01a-bigKolombo is a producer well known among the mnmland. We have been covering some of his best releases and in this year he already released two Eps, one on Bluffin Records (Tweedle Dee) and the other on Turbo Records, a Montreal based record label that started out in March of 1998 as a partnership between two friends and DJs, Mark Dillon and Tiga.. old school! While “Tweedle Dee” is a mysterious confusion of weird sounds (not exactly a master piece), “Sniff Ep” is a classic release marked by delicious minimalist constructions and really progressive rhythms. A1 track is a really progressive blow tune  marked by a sample recall us to some illicit happenings. It’s very well constructed and will have a certain success in the dancefloors. “Pique Nique” in the B side is the most strong track in the Ep and the real reason of why I’m posting this here. This one has an awesome trippy sub bass groove that is able to eat your mind up. The crispped synths are also delightfull and the all elements seem to combine perfectly, a real brain teaser. Release nrº 61 on Tiga’s Turbo Records. Snifffff

Chris Lattner & Coco Malente – Limbo Taxi

1x1_42_b_label_textsideChris Lattner, one of the Lessizmore resident,  gets back to Einmaleins teaming up with Felicitas Mambele aka Coco Malente, a Nigeriam producer,  for another great instalment. This might be considered a little preview of what’s to come during next Summer, fresh sounds, cool happy vocals and some pumpy flavored beats demanding danceable moments. Thats how the Ep starts, in the A side with Lattner’s track. “Limbo With Coco” has already been supported by mr. Nick Curly and Karotte among others, and it might really be a great Summer hit, the track has it all, quality, rhythm and a really enjoayble beat reminding us some of those old school anthems that we so much liked. In the B side  Malente’s appears with a “Yellow Cab to Paris” showing up the same kind of patterns presented  in the A side, a solid pumpy groove, some tribal elements, smooth funky bassline’s and really good percussive elements. Einmaleins was picked as one of the top 5 labels of last year and that can’t be considered luck, their work continues to be subliminal always presenting some of the best fresh tunes of the market, this time with the most grooviest and the most subtle house out there at the moment. To be released in the last days of March
