Ruthit – Not a Problem

ruthit-400x400Manchester-based producer Ruthit and his “Not A Problem” 12” is the latest blast of new talent from Four:Twenty and features a rather fine remix from Playhouse artists My My alongside two superb originals. A trained audio engineer with a fascination for organic sounds and warmth that they bring to tracks, Ruthit is a relative newcomer to house music yet his tracks have a rare, mature quality both musically and technically.

The titular track is melodic deep house with a shuffling vibe and airy feel but with a kick that really kicks and a smattering of heavy toms which really give the track some weight while the top end ebbs, flows and shimmers with intricate top end percussion.
Lee Jones and Nick Höppner as My My deliver one of their best pieces of work to date in their remix of ‘Not A Problem’. The originals piano work remains intact while the chords subtly melt in and out of the background above a modulated synth bass which shouldn’t work, but does (beautifully). “Cameronian (RIP)” rounds the release off. Although more drummy and urgent than ‘Not A Problem’ it’s sporadic piano and sustained strings give it a similarly deep sound, but one which will suit late-night sets or afterhours due to a more skewed vibe

Minimaland Feedback: If you’re looking for deep subliminal music this is the perfect choice. The chords of “Not a Problem” are terrific and My My remix turns it even more exquisite. Don’t miss this one…

Steve Bug – Collaboratory

BUG Collab Schuber 03 Dj and Producer with over 15 years of tireless dedication to the scene, Steve Bug is proud to announce his fourth artist album – “Collaboratory” that will be out on Poker Flat Recordings during June. This work was based strongly on the ideas of collaboration, shared ideas and mutual respect for fellow artists and the strength of combining forces in the studio so Steve had to chose some special producers and vocalists to work with. From Berlin came Cassy and Clé (part of Martini Bros) and Paris The Black, one half of Detroit Grand Pubahs, ace producers that could assure quality! From the southern emisphery came Simon Flower featuring with Bug on their new teasing cut “Passing Clouds” while Minimise boss Donnacha Costello also went head to head in the studio to create “Still Music”. To mention also the stunning full-length vocals of Brazilian talent Virginia Nascimento on the slow-spun “Trust in Me”. Although the bulk of this addictive, instant classic consists of collaborative works, there’s still a handful of fresh solo Bug treats in store…

The album starts with “Trees Can’t Dance” transmitting instant warm vibes perfect to be spread on early morning sessions in the best clubs or open party’s around the world, this modern classic provides the perfect opening tones for the album. Next comes the textured “Swallowed Too Much Bass” featuring the twisted vocal talents of Paris the Black Fu in a highly funky and spooky straight-to-the-floor workout exploring perfectly acid flavors and some classic synth that we normally listen in Bug’s work. Cassy tones show up in the third track in a slow-cooking jam that combines acid house moments with deep dub pics reminding us some classic house traditions and how they can be suited to our times. The album continues with the tool “You Never…” building the energy and tension to approach the next set of tracks…

pokerflatProduced by two long time friends and collaborators (Bug and Clé) “Month of Ship” evolves around profound dark-house vibes and some pitching rave-signals. Expect nothing but pure quality, beats that cut through the mix like a finely sharpened blade, and luxury synth work. One of the best works of the album. 6th track is “Mr. Suitcase” full of slowly progressing melodic movements and timeless layered synth themes. A harmonious moment, marking the middle point of the album. A track to listen in those long journeys full of thoughts, dreams and expectations. “Trust In Me” features the amazing vocal talents of Brazilian musician Virginia Nascimento, who currently resides in Berlin. This deep swung song is structured around a slow house vibe, but still works in a club environment with its hypnotic, ringing synth hooks and heavy bass elements. Simon Flower the New Zealand based artist appears on track 8 “Passing Clouds” teaming up with Steve to build a huge minimal groove in true Poker Flat style. The blossoming synth lines build up an organic fresh mysterious dancefloor adventure while the softer melodic moments draw attention to the finer ends of the production. Amazing tune!

An exciting collaboration between Steve and Donnacha Costello marks the last part of this genuine album. IN “Still Music” they were able to build the most immediate dancefloor cut of this set of tracks where an acid-line monster rises up from firm foundation along with a twisted rude beat and some surprising textural elements and effects. “Like It Should Be” is a stripped down Chicago-inspired cut that keeps the groove focused an restrained, allowing the wonderful, rousing vocals of Gigi (Finnish co-partner of Sam & Gigi) to really shine through in another track that really suits well to Poker Flat patterns. The last closing track of the album is “Cherry Blossoms” in a deep classic electronic style that have surely been absorbed into Steve’s core over the years of finding. It’s the perfect track to end this kind of work, an album that owes its musical strength to the roots of this scene, those early warehouse days, the wonderful moments of discovery and the treasured times shared among true friends…

steve-bugThe time and effort spent on this remarkable body of work is clear through the astounding quality, warmth and sheen of the recording. Steve Bug’s productions never disappoint, yet with “Collaboratory” his sound has been lifted to even greater heights, rejuvenating a ton of classic machines and analogue gear to enhance the production, giving every track a distinctive, lively and full aesthetic. Natural analogue harmonics and warm mid ranges color the mix with a velvet hue, making this a long-player that’s a joy to re-live, time and again! ..”Collaboratory” is a beautiful, refreshing and open-minded reminder why talents like Steve Bug are so hard to find… Thanks to his wealth of talent and dedication to his art, he’s ensured a whole new wave of fans, as he treads the bright, promising path of 2009 and beyond! Not to miss…

Lemos – Na Funky Kotes EP

lemos-aIt’s been a long time since we didn’t have a release from Mr Lemos the genius Greek producer that, along with Kreon, have been talked by everyone during last year. Na Funky Kotes Ep has been released by Quantized Music,a new independent label from Athens “aiming to release high quality modern electronic dance music”. So, on their 3rd release George Lemos shows up to launch two tremendous tracks full of quality and sophisticated rhythms. It all starts with the original mix of “Na Funky Kotes”, following the normal standards of this producer, with lots of live bass grooves , some jazz imprints (in this case, the clarinet) and really good breaks followed by the natural pumpy recycling of the track. This is something that you’ll full understand only if you have a great soundsystem because the multi-layered bassline demands it, it has such an incredible kick and a weird fascinating melodic cut that could only be created by this amazing guy. “Some Groove” runs through more calm strains but it doesn’t forget the funky bleeps and the jazzy loops creating, again, an extreme groovy feeling. The Ep ends with a remix from Swiss producer David Keno. On his version of “Na Funky Kotes” he approaches a more minimal way of doing things, maintaining the jazz melodic moments of the first, making them more subliminal, not as enthusiast, but more directed to club night djaing. Both versions are extremely well producer and are strongly supported by minimaland team. “We couldn’t expect anything less”!

VA – Aus Music…All Night Long

Splited in two cds it came to our hands this excellent work edited by Aus music, label leaded by Will Saul & Sideshow aka Fin Greenall. Cd1 is composed by a series of new tracks produced by friends and future partners of this label, while cd2 is based on some choices by Will Saul and it’s mixed by the same.

allnightlong

So on cd1 we can find a great variety of electronic music passing by genres like house, techno, electro and dub. we will be able to listen some marking sonority’s like the case of  “Siamese cat” by Sian aka Graham Goodwin, featuring it with a ultra magnetic deep house and some noises similar to this similar race with the respective ups and downs of their life’s. “Tabular” is another tracks that marked me more on this cd1, this time over Shur-I-Kan hands, aka Tom Szirtes. Despite not being to much long, this tabular transmit us an huge feeling, really strong, excellent to listen with some pretty rays of sunshine being projected on calm river waters Lee Jones is one of the most fine producers to minimaland team, and with him comes “label” following his own past style, with great production on what concerns to its growing patterns, applying on a very structured way a vocal interlaced with the start of the beat. to end this analysis to cd1 a last word about going going going produced by MY MY (marvelous duo that has been talked a lot among the minimal/deep house musical genre. Oh, i almost forgot of heartwave by Will Saul & Tam Cooper that it doesn’t have too much to talk about but on the other hand i cant stop listening it!

willsaulbylarsborges15

On cd2 faces us a large summary of what Aus music might worth, with the excelent musical taste of Will Saul and the answer of why Lee Jones is such a trendy producer. i don’t doubt, though, and to the sound of names like my my, will saul, sian or sideshow we all would have a ny super long and funny. as we may notice most part of will saul choices has been featured by lee jones tracks and, off course, we will have to mention the huge performance on will saul’s mixing quality’s on this huge set of tracks.
