I think Minimaland has already showed all their love for Upon You releases. Almost every one of them have the ability to surprise us and even if we expect the very best from this label, their rarely let usdown. This is the 2nd time we present a Mathias Mesteno work and if you liked the last one you’ll surely like this! The Ep is composed by three amazing tracks starting with “Andrea” a deep tech house seductive production where a heavy bassline and some high fashion loops (very similar to Detroit’s style) stand out! This track has a growing pattern since it starts and it will easily be a major hit in the dancefloors. After Andrea, Mesteno present us “Bettina”, a quite more pumpy lad making us remind some typical Masomenos or Kreon & Lemos productions with a high pumpy beat and some jazzy loops that fit perfectly in it. The tech house rhythm marks presence in this one again imputing itself like a fingerprint of Mesteno’s music. “Melinda” closes this fabulous Ep in a great way, this one is a more mysterious one where you listen the first minute and you still can’t imagine what’s coming out of there. Well, I won’t ruin it for you but I can tell you that this is a deep delicacy, typical on Upon You, in those kinds of tracks that keep getting up and down always creating an enormous urge to dance. Another must have production, buy it and keep it like gold cause you can’t get much better than this.

At a first glance, the name Alexis Cabrera didn’t mean anything to me until this work I had the pleasure to listen and now review. Drived by Powerfull basslines, all the ‘Almohaditas’ Extended Play possesses a sense of integration and harmony difficult to find.
Alexis Cabrera felled the sense for the electronic music as a child, using the first DOS trackers. A few years later, entered the Sant Martin Conservatoire to graduate in a six year class of classic guitar. This situates him, in August 2007 with his first EP ‘Hidrobios EP’, in Unlock Recordings, where the groovy, deep, and characteristic rhythmic basses are outlined.
‘Almohaditas Ep’, is a round Ep, brilliantly worked and detailed without owning anything to the power department. As the first track starts, you’ll know what I mean. The bass line is crystal clear yet energized and a little “non-stop” sensation embedded into it. All the tracks possess a ‘Alexis trademark’ and even the remixes are pretty well integrated in all the Ep, and the credits go to Someone Else, honored member in the minimaland, and to Corrier, that despite the unknown name to the general masses, delivers a remix with quality.

In general, great, rounded Extended Play to suit different moods and approach them in order to put a smile on your crowd. One of the best surprises around in the last times and surely a name to follow with detailed attention in the next months.

The Berlin based Brothers Roman & Marcel are back with their first release during 2009, launched by Connaisseur, Recordings  as usual. This might be their greatest Ep till date and was already supported by Lee Jones, Gabriel Ananda, Solomun, Shinedoe, Masomenos, Eyerer, Brendom Moeller and Luke Solomon among others. In fact this work contains three great grooves that go around some deep Detroit house and minimal techno. The Ep starts with “Night Bell” with a 4by4 old school rhythm and some neurotic patterns that will make your brain trip during all the way of this one. All the tracks that have “Bell” on their name usually are like this: psychotic, trippy and really acid! Next is “Sneeky Dee” in a far more relaxed rhythm, more inclined to deep house roots but that fast turn into a tech house track. It has a great bassline and the construction on this one is simply amazing, in the beginning there’s only the beat but things start to show up forming an incredible tune. I can see this rising up the moods of night and after-hours crowds. “Red Tension” ends this production in a great way. It is the track with the strongest musical approach, where Plasmik stop to be random producers and transform themselves into something more: musicians. It has a great deep rhythm, with some jazzy instrument in the back like the piano and the sax and a beautiful sound universe stepped up by an amazing percussion, building up a perfect journey. Outstanding release.

DIGITALINE, the Swiss experts in organic grooves and trippy rhythms, are releasing the second record of Zurich based label CITYFOX. The vinyl features two long tracks, both telling their own story. The title track “Seeking Attention” builds up slowly, a perfect tool to integrate in DJ sets starting its full power towards minute 5:00. With the catchy vocals and perfectly simple percussion, this one is for sure one of this year‘s summer anthems that will work perfectly in the dancefloors. All the ingredients are there, you just have to use them the best way you can! It has one thing in common with the B-side track “Altra” – smart vocals combined with an undeniably, tricky groove that makes all of you dance with no exception. The percussion is not as powerful as in the A-side but, on the other hand, the patterned 4×4 construction is very well achieved reminding me some of the best Cadenza Records productions. This two tracks will sure be in your mind for a long time, minimal at it’s best.
Also watch out for the digital-only track of this release – “Far From the Glitter”. This track is another serious message to forget all your troubles and daily issues, made to lose yourselves on the dancefloor (what a fabulous percussion, brilliant step by step construction and again, the vocals creating a huge effect) to the sound of one of the best duo in the scene – Digitaline. Summer can come!

Today minimaland takes you trough a journey to Africa. Tanzbar is a German label that I’ve been following for a long time. They normally bet on deep minimal sounds turned up to clubbing and after hours sessions and this one is not an exception. This time they brought up Markus Wesen and Khaan to deliver a really good Ep, counting also with a Miss Jools remix in the B side… the ep starts with “Journey to AfriKa”, a track with a step by step construction – with a 4×4 beat – marked by a really good bassline and some African chants that really fit in perfectly in the track, I can see this being charted by the greatest Dj’s worldwide. In the B side Miss Jools turns this Journey a little bit more European with a typical Berlin production, very aggressive and pumpy. If you’re looking for light production that will bring great results in the dancefloors this is your Ep, A side to the crowds, B side to specialists, but two well achieved productions!

Wagon Repair’s first release past the 50 benchmark offers a look at long time partner Hrdvsion’s latest works of chopped melody and effervescent invention. Opener ‘The Mohana’ explores a central chord progression with intermittent squeaked melodic static, reverberant pad echoes and crisp swinging percussion. A pragmatic animal, dueling hook lines dance, transform and compete for attention between pounded kick and hat in one of Hrdvsion’s most floor ready tracks to date.
B side ‘ Sliding Into Air (Edit)’ takes matters ten clicks deeper as soaked pads loom forebodingly over lively harmonic sparks. An exercise in volume and dynamics, melodic holes are punched through a compressed mix, their impact adding profound rhythm to the already infectious percussive motor. Epic and uncompromising, ‘Sliding Into Air’ is a violently graphic alternative to its meeker techno cousins. ‘Sliding Into Air (Live)’ , which will only be available in digital format, offers a different shade to its aggressive original, with melodic and percussive variations adding definition to the tracks monolithic pads and mix meddling dynamics.

The French producer is back, this time with a larger soul, full of new musical environments. After having passed through labels like kompakt, obsolete or stir it’s time to run to other horizons, like Morec with only three years of existence. This new disc is composed by 4 fabulous tracks, having each one of them a little sample of these new ideas of Hervé Ak. “LOST” is the first track presenting a tasty musical growing pattern, based on sharp sounds followed by a gentle and relaxing dry beat. This is something different on the French Herve AK works, maybe trying to accept the Asian musical culture. “lent” is the second track of this work transmitting a very good vibe with an explosive noise on small scale along with melodies that stick right into your hears achieving a great combination during the most charged moments of the track. “sesta cella” is a powerful one, excellent to a great morning of this coming summer. A good selection of sounds and brilliant percussion rhythms transforms this track to a journey on witch the only feeling is to think on a nature full of environmental quality. “voluptia” is my favourite track of this release because it contains the ingredients required to make appreciators excited on this extraordinary melancholic minimal.

It will be a huge success in all the party’s of the next coming season. To end this review i would like to leave a small word of appreciation to this new Japanese label wishing them all the success.
