Hugo – Stel and Atan

LabelTuning Spork is clearly becoming one of my favorite labels, their have been doing a great work this year and today I present to you their latest Ep. The original “Stel and Atan” was first released back in 2007 and now, after two years, label founder Jay Haze felt it was time to do the proper revisit of this sort of neglected bomb! So, both Haze and Hugo produced two new versions of the track. The A side is the “S Ivory Pleated Pants Remix”, by Hugo, a funky deep minimal house tune with a great bass line and a hot groovy rhythm that will leave the dancefloor swaying under the moonlight. Next comes Haze with his “S Iridescent Spandex Remix) bringing the track to a deeper level turning this monster into a minimal tech turn on! The rhythm is near to perfection along with the bass variations.. After his great mix for Fabric, Hazy continues to surprise us, we really support his work and we honestly think that his productions keep getting better..  this is a track to be appreciated by… appreciators! Hugo and Haze showing the people what minimal grooves are all about.

And its colored gold this year!So it’s time for 10…what a run it’s been folks and they’re set to celebrate with their jubilee roll out for 2009 – still standing and stronger that ever Kompakt returns with their annual tradition – the Cologne event this year set for the 14th of August and the collection.
Spanning the course of 2 CD’s (and 3LP’s), TOTAL 10 aims to be the collection of essential tunes from our catalog and highlights exclusive, new music from the likes of DJ Koze, Thomas/Mayer, Juergen Paape, Wassermann aka Wolfgang Voigt and others. What one immediately will notice in comparison to other editions is the inclusion of remixes….the likes of Ivan Ssmaghe & Tim Paris aka It’s A Fine Line tackling Burger/Voigt, Gui Boratto’s remix of Sam Taylor Wood produced by Pet Shop Boys, Thomas Fhelmann’s stunning impression of The Field and of course finally available, the lost remix of Goyte’s hit “Heart’s A Mess” by Supermayer. Expect the unexpected this year, TOTAL 10 promises to be one of the most diverse collections of tracks the label has ever brought forward in our history.

Minimaland Feedback: If you don’t know this Kompakt series by now, I don’t now where have you been! It’s their 10th, one each year, and I suggest them all! More than good music, Kompakt present us some of the best moments of electronic music history. Sean Palm – Days On End

Sean Palm Studio 23Its all about family around these parts of town. Whether blood or not, a tight infrastructure of friends, collaborators, jokers and nut jobs are pushing and breaking musical boundaries. For days on end these unpredictable situations fuel an urge to capture life’s greater moments through sound.
This is the Sean Palm vision. The Railyard Co-Founder was born, raised and still remains in New York’s premiere suburban playground. He was there from the very beginning of the East Coast Movement, and the earworms that dug deep into the Sean Palm program are evident in the sounds of Underground Resistance, Warp, Harthouse, Eye Q and R&S Records. With over 15 years of techno experience in his arsenal, Sean Palm emerges with an Artist Album that crosses the 4/4 boundaries of House and Techno. Dare we say it even touches upon real deal “Trance”? Not the kind you listen to while the Mickey Mouse gloves are in the dryer, mind you…
The album launches with the simple sounds of Silent Storm and Polyphonic. The opening tracks invite the listener to soak in the deep reverberations of an underwater excursion. Seemless Dreams then steps up and spreads its strings wide, pushing forward the album’s energy. Not losing sight of dancefloor friendliness, Sightings, Lost in The Bronx and Days On End fuse an array of early 90’s Trance influences with modern day Hypnotic Techno design. Coming back down to earth is the wonky Green Matrix, wobbling with bits and blobs falling perfectly into place. The latter part of the excursion sees the strange computer rhythms of Drumatrix that dance in conjunction with proper synths over constantly building, intelligent drum programming. Palm rounds out the album with 10 Years Later, a lush, organic House production with an overall healing touch…
The eclectic Techno label from New York is on point again with their first debut full length from their head-honcho.

Minimaland Feedback: This album was really a good surprise, we were expecting a nice cd but not something like this, a work made by genius, this will fit to almost every circumstance, the techno quality is well above the average, with hypnotic minimal patterns all the way! I can’t stop listening this, one of the best cd’s of the year in Minimaland’s perspective. If you like it soft, refined, full of emotion and small moves, buy this one! Quality ensured.

Leon – Factory One Ep

vivaHis skills behind the decks have also seen him play Pacha (New York), Cielo and Zouk, and perform alongside many of the worlds elite names. As a producer, his singles and remixes have come on a variety of labels, and this year he is already scheduled to release on the fantastic Cecille Records, Soweso and Rebirth.
Today’s 3 track Viva extravaganza opens with the wonderful ‘In Da Factory’. Modern-Chicago could be a new sub genre, and this opening number would lead the way. Old skool sounds and samples are held together with the rolling-glue of today’s house. ‘Lovers’ opens with a wave of percussive excellence. Building with its riffing keys, timpanic bassline and delicate Xylophone, it rolls along brilliantly, rising and falling in a wave of bassbin lovin’.
Closing out the EP is the tribal soundtrack of ‘Negro’. A variety of drums and percussive tools are present, and its bouncing bassline trips things along brilliantly. Its vocal break will build the drama, leading into its drum-heavy drop. A fantastic release and debut for Leon, and one of the most exciting Viva Music releases of the catalogue. More fine work Mr Lawler!! Supported by Loco Dice, Kiki, David K, Dj Hell, Shlomi Aber, Davide Squillace, Gregor Tresher, Robert Dietz, Monika Kruse, Len Faki, Luca Bachetti, Nick Curly, Danny Tenaglia, Luciano, Lauhaus, Ilario Alicante and many more… Huge!
