Gaiser – Pullshup

61574After a long wait Gaiser gets back to m_nus for another installment. Pullshup is his new EP and after listening it I can say to you that I really missed his releases. You’ll recognize his sound instantly, all of his music contain a very particular signature that I really appreciate. His creations always go through nocturnal atmospheres, full of dark possessed scary sounds working like a guideline to a perfect night of madness. The first track of this release is “Pullshup” stepped by the patterns that I wrote above, with a strong beat setting up the pace in a percussive frenzy. The synth lines are very penetrating and the subliminal vocals will enter into your subconscious instantly. Next comes “Oolooloo” in a more deep groove, with a nice 4/5 Kick pattern, and some acid synths that will cause serious damage into your brain. If you buy the digital release you will have another two tracks, starting with “Mfnstmp” that makes me remind some of Gaiser’s firsts productions, a very particular one with some neurotic synths, among a step by step construction, always leaded by a perfect bass meltdown. Very similar to Frankie’s style. “Semaphore” ends up in a great style, starting with the typical beat of Jon Gaiser and evolving around a killer bass line, dark synths and some twisted voices that will install the mess wherever it-s played! If you like m_nus style, then this is a must have

Tom Clark – Scorpio

tom clark scorpioHighgrade is, from a long time, one of my favorite labels! Their work has been immaculate over the last years and every release they launch is literally music to my ears! On their 65th release they brought in, once again, Tom Clark, the Berlin based producer who has been having quite good releases recently, and this one isn’t the exception. The first track is the main one, “Scorpio” a complete turn on to every mnml appreciator. The track starts smooth, with a 4 x 4 beat, sparkling synths and a deep bassline but rapidly develops into an exciting hypnotic addiction! Huge! The 2nd one is “Albino”… if you don’t really know what minimal tech house means, this might be one of it’s best examples. It starts only with the beat and every element goes entering one by one creating an enormous will to dance. His massive attention for detail is well represented in this one. A track perfectly produced, with dancefloor appeal, just like Highgrade has been habituating us. “Sand Flea” ends up the Ep in a very particular way, a very enjoyable track, like the name suggests. If you like to be in the top of the mainstream minimal scene don’t miss this release, I have no doubts that will have an huge success in every deck it plays! Supported by  Magda, Gregor Tresher, Monika Kruse, Jens Bond, Martin Eyerer, Konrad Black, 3 Channels, Benno Blome, Lauhaus, Karotte and many more…

The New CDJ 2000

Pioneer have released a video detailing the features of their new CDJ2000, and their music software package, Record Box. The new consoles traditional CDJ functionality, and introduces a number of new fuctions, including compatibility with portable music players via USB and SD. A new ‘Link’ function allows user to run up to four CDJs from one source. Watch the detailed demo

How is the new CDJ 2000 going to influence the industry and your creative talent? It has so many technical features what exactly can you do with it? Well we will lay it out in simple terms for you right here and once we get one in store for demo, you can visit our store in Newcastle for a hands on trial yourself.

How will this new player benefit you – the dj? …

cdj-2000Well, to put it simply you can play pretty much all formats of digital media, whether on CD, DVD or USB memory stick and SD Cards. Use the Pioneer ‘RekordBox’ software (Pioneer’s own ‘iTunes’ organisation software) to sort your collection and playlists on your computer at home, setup cue points and beatgrids in each track then transfer to your media storage of choice – CD, DVD, USB Stick or SD Card. Then you would simply turn up to the club with at least 2 CDJ2000’s installed and plug your USB stick in or CD in and read your tracks from the stick or CD on both players. No more carrying boxes of CD’s, bags or laptops. You could go out pubbing or clubbing before your set and just carry a memory stick or SD Card in your pocket and turn up at the club ready to go.

If you use Traktor or Serato then you can simply turn up with your laptop, connect the two players via USB and control your software without the need of timecode CD’s. Browse your tracks on the CDJ screens instead of the laptop where it displays all track information. You could probably just close the lid of the laptop so it looks like you aren’t even using a laptop.
Whilst in the mix and wanting to flick through a track, simply run your finger across the Needle Search strip under the screen (same as the Numark NS7 strip search feature) and watch the location marker visually on the waveform. No more winding the jog wheel to find your cue points.

Paul Brtschitsch – Me Myself & Live Pt2

paulbrtPaul Brtschitsch has been carving a place for himself in the dance music hall of fame for the last 13 years, recording for the likes of Music Man, Ostgut and Resopal as well as his own Rootknox imprint. His unique blend of house and techno was recently showcased on his latest long player entitled ‘Me, Myself and Live’ and now two of the key cuts form the aforementioned make it on this vinyl release single alongside a truly superb remix from Anja Schneider co-written by Paul. The choice of Schneider for remix duties was an obvious one, the pair first met on a shuttle bus to an event and in short stead Paul was co-writing for Anja, becoming part of the driving force behind her huge debut album ‘Beyond the Valley’, now she pulls out all the stops to reciprocate with this standout reworking.

First up on the package is the Anja Schneider remix of ‘Three Weeks’, the opening cut from Paul’s recent album. Here the pair, deconstruct the parts and rebuild things into a deep and hypnotic version that has instant dancefloor appeal stamped all over it. Solid, chunky drums rub up against simple spacey synth lines and warm pads to huge effect. Bearing in mind the superb quality of the original this is a job well done, and a real addition to this great package.

Next we have the original of ‘Three Weeks’, a track named after the extensive time it took to record. Paul had originally intended to record the album in 6-8 weeks, then ended up spending nearly half of his allocated time on this opener. But it has to be said it was worth the effort. This is a slice of solid tech inspired house with subtle vocal elements and a musicality that cuts through the records club based nature. Excellent stuff.

Finally we have Diamant Flute, another winner from the ‘Me, Myself and Live’ album. Deep and highly engaging this again displays Paul outstanding talents as a producer, weaving melodic elements deep into the mix and retaining an incredible underground electronic sound.

Dinky – Anemik

dinky 300pxFollowing up on her unanimously acclaimed third album ‘ May Be Later’ (Vakant), Chilean artist and Berlin transplant Alejandra Iglesias conceived ‘Anemik’ entirely for the Wagon Repair label after being approached by label head Mathew Jonson. A musing on femininity and the fine line between romance and delirium, ‘Anemik’ transcends borders in its range of influence and reflects consciousness in the fluidity and tangibly live origins of its creation. Recorded using analog equipment and acoustic instruments with a strong emphasis on voice, there is a wisdom and maturity to this work that suggests an artist in the prime of her life.

Opener ‘Childish’ builds from meditative beginnings with looped synth, wandering pads and wildfire percussive cycles that concoct a deep and dreamy landscape. ‘Romaniks’ creates space between electronic and acoustic spheres with Latin soaked beats encircling a subdued kick. Mantric vocal chants inject a mystical dimension to the affair, its psychedelic overtones continuing into ‘Westoid’, where Dinky’s vocal lament is complimented by the baritone accents of Los Updates enigmatic Jorge Gonzales. ‘Gold Fishes’ bubbles into being with processed choral scales, while ‘Rain Fallic’ is a mid tempo trip of lazy legato harmonies and epic Telecaster drones. Title track ‘Anemik’ is a restless electronic frenzy, with melodic and percussive elements feuding amidst staccato vocals, effervescent machine transmissions and a penetrating central kick.

‘Glacial’ opens with an aquatic brew of reverberant vocals and deep percussion that swims through murky pads and delayed keys to close. ‘Ceramik’ weaves a tight beat, with warm Rhodes accompaniment, live percussion and ramped vocal passages concocting a mesmeric floor worker for the early hours. A perfect example of the fluid, jam infused tone of the album as a whole.
Thumbed melodic patterns and sonorous key stabs characterize ‘Glassic’, while ‘Skyped’ intertwines grandiose processed chorals, deep metallic percussion and leveling pads in a hypnotic malaise of storm and sweat.

The infectious arpeggiated melodies of ‘Epilepsia’ are invigorated by live Latin percussion and intermittently cooled by warm pad progressions in a contemplative ascent to close. ‘Fadik’ grips as a wonky love song set to cascading beats, strummed guitar and electronic emissions, while closing track ‘Nocturnal’ unsettles with moribund ambient shivers to complete the kaleidoscopic range of flavors and emotions offered by this most remarkable of records.

At times dreamy, at times nightmarish, at times romantic, at times befuddled, ‘Anemik’ is always quintessentially Dinky.

Sei A – Chinese Whispers

CS364541-01B-BIGThe producer from Glasgow, Andy Graham debuts on International Dj Gigolos with a high intensity record. I’ve been following the producer’s career for quite some time and this EP confirms all my expectations. “Chinese Whispers” goes around dark environments and deep beats and I have no doubt that every dancefloor will appreciate this tracks. The a-side is a “super late night Electro tinged Techno, dark oscillating bass colliding with mysterious female vocals for a serious trip”. Perfect rhythm to be spread in the night times. On the flipside “My Montage” forggets the dark patterns and explores some morning feelings. The beat keeps deep and dark but some “luscious posh trance tinges and urgent synths” turn this track into a track that can become unforgetable, if played in the proper place and time! High rated EP, one of the best releases I’ve listened from Gigolo in a long time (Along the Peter Kruder ones).

Steve Bug – The Lab 02

LAB002s-coverWith the first instalment of “The Lab” from Loco Dice receiving critical acclaim, it’s no surprise that for ˚2 the prestigious NRK imprint have drafted in Steve Bug, arguably one of the finest and most innovative underground DJs in the world.

With a career which has seen him excel as a DJ, Producer, A&R and Label Manager, Bug has always been on point and this mix is no different. Having started his career, quite aptly on the party isle of Ibiza, back in 1991, the man known to his parents as Stefan Brugesch broke into production in the early 90s, recording for the now legendary Hamburg based Superstition Recordings. A string of early releases (including one for Felix Da Housecat’s fledgling Radikal Fear label), shaped the ‘Steve Bug’ sound of minimal tech house aimed squarely at the dancefloor. By 1998, Bug had set up two record labels to reflect the wealth of talent in his musical circles, Poker Flat Recordings and Dessous.

Now, in 2009 and fresh from releasing his “Collaboratory” long player earlier this year, Bug returns to the decks to deliver 2 discs of house music as only he can. Taking in the length and breadth of contemporary house, the mixes are programmed in a way that screams Bug.

From the opening melodies of Ostgut man Nick Hoeppner via the low down grooves of Londoner Kevin Griffiths, CD1 is a fluid succession of electronic deep house cuts with an emphasis on melody and variation. From the revivalist feel of Kai Alice feat. Azulu Panton’s “Power Thru 3” and Rocco’s “The Man” to the futurist funk of Berkson and What’s “Cycles”, the transitions are smooth and the overview warm before culminating in the warped funk of Kiki’s “Good Voodoo”.

steve-bugCD2 develops things wonderfully, picking up from CD1’s deep vibe and adding an angular, peak time edge to the mix. Opener “The Soul Part 2” by Craig Smith on the fledgling imprint Delusions of Grandeur sums this transition up perfectly with its warm outlook spiked by a bubbling acid bassline. Nagging and hypnotic, the mix remains heads down but resolutely compelling with DJ Koze’s remix of Blagger on Perspectiv, Art Of Tones’ “Call The Shots” and Cobblestone Jazz’s “Traffic Jam” providing forward thinking highlights.

The Lab 02 further cements the reputation of one of electronic music’s best love sons whilst establishing this compilation series as a must have for music fans everywhere
