Paul Kalkbrenner – Berlin Calling Vol.2

BPC206AThe restless trip through countless clubs, numerous airports and on-going party insanity continues as the second soundtrack rendering of Hannes Stöhr’s premier drama film, Berlin Calling, takes on its awaited release. Paul Kalkenbrenner’s masterstroke, “Berlin Calling Vol. 2,” continues to accompany the protagonists from Stöhr’s moving and somewhat tragic depiction while surfacing a humorous and well-spirited undertone. Although the tracks, “Bengang” and “Torted,” lack their corresponding picture, they highly possess the authentic feverish atmosphere depicted in the film, plainly making them the blue prints to DJ Ickarus’s jam-packed dance floor. Don’t expect any fancy embellishment on this release. These two tracks flow nicely like a non-stop machine. “Bengang” transmits more of a classic house-element with subtle hints of percussion while “Torted” pulls the track’s speed, making it an uncompromising energy-booster. “Berlin Calling Vol. 2″ simultaneously offers a powerful and irresistible listening experience to soundtrack listeners, film observers and, of course, movie hero character, DJ Ickarus himself! Resistance is futile!

C’io Dor – Die Faser

ciodor.de-press-gloves-150dpiTime for the first album on Prologue ever. There was only one artist they could think about to do that: Cio D´Or. Her sets Emotional, extravagant and charismatic. She doesn´t just play music, she lives it. At 17 she was already playing congas in a 7-person jazz band, and her staged dance choreographies were inspired by the likes of Brian Eno and David Byrne. Encounters with Acid Maria, Electric Indigo ( whom she joined for Female Pressure), Tobi Neumann and Richard Bartz let to her infamous residency at the legendary Munich club „Ultraschall“, while she also started to run her own night „Nachtwind“ in Woandersclub and Harry Klein. Thus began her autodidactic studies of sound technology. She sampled everything and everywhere. Kitted out with minidisk and MPC 2000 she travelled several times to the Sinai. She selects her co-productions according to musical proximity and friendship – Donato Dozzy, Paul Brtschitsch and Gabriel Ananda. Most of the album consists of Cio‘s melodic minimal stylings, with deft but subtle touches of delay and reverb lending themselves to her trippy sound that makes up different kinds of fabric, from Brokat to Pailletten and Wildseide. Prologue also won the lucky draw with upcoming “Die Faser” remixes by Sleeparchive, Donato Dozzy, Milton Bradley, Pendel Coven, Samuli Kemppi, and Claudio PRC. In addition VJ Heiligenblut visualized “Goldbrokat‘. Cio also peppered the debut with three short beatless cuts („Zellulose Wind“, „Angora“ and „Seide“), adding to the drama for listeners who will want to take the album in from start to finish. Cio´s famous encouraging passion united in “Die Faser” creates a deep transparent sound architecture with the right sense of love and creativity for electronic music experiences – as expected – including a breath of ambient feelings and encapsulation into the other worlds. Lie down and release yourself to the touch of our Cio D´Or

Minimaland Feedback: Die Faser starts strong from the start. As I was listening the Intro track i already noticed that this would be a great album. Cio D’or sounds are completely different from everything else. While you’re feeling a great sense of underground music, full of strong basslines and hypnotic samples, you’re also feeling all her love for music. The way she builds her tracks are indistinguishable, and tracks like “Goldbrokat”, “Brokat” or “Pailletten” will be the delight of everybody in the dancefloors, while tracks like “Angora” or “Zellulose Wind” bring harmony to the album. For me the album of the year and a really good surprise!

Alex Under – Muscle Tracks II

alex under muscle tracksAfter a long time Alex Under is back to minimaland with what might be his best work of the year. We have been following this Spanish producer’s career for a long time, it were Eps like “Multiplicanciones” or “Las Bicicletas Son Para el Verano” that turned him who he is today and, in this release, Alex Under seems to be back to his best shape! “Muscle Tracks II” is full of energy, funky rhythms and insane grooves that you will taste in all the 3 tracks. It all starts with a potent “Mustang” setting up the course to a fantastic evening of strong, hallucinated and fast tracks. In the flipside the famous 80’s “Charger” keeps the race in full speed changing the hallucinated rhythm of the “Mustang” for a deep mysterious groove for you to pedal on. Last but not the least comes the charismatic Pontiac “Firebird” closing the race, this one is not running for power, he has shown up just to exhibit all his class and style.

Robag Wruhme – Lampetee

wruhme lampeteeA new label is in the market, Movida is the most recent German imprint and for their start they brought in one of the best producers out there: mr. Robar Wruhme, half part of Wighnomy Brothers, that recently announced their retirement – as a duo – of music industry. Well, Gabor didn’t exactly retired, he just appears to get things on his one and, in this release, he surprised everybody else with a really untypical production comparing to his normal standards. Despite it’s an unusual one from him, it doesn’t mean it’s bad, on the contrary, it’s a great dubby track that all of you, that like this kind of rhythms, will appreciate… as I did. The track starts smooth and deep with a typical 4×4 beat and goes subtly growing around itself. It’s one of those deep minimal grooves that we so much like around here and apparently he does to. “Lampetee” stands for a very old Greek song with a songtext that Gabor packed in his track giving it an extra dimension. Perfect for the afternoon ending or the start of a good after-hours session with the sun rising. In the flipside Nick Curly steps up to deliver a fantastic groove, approaching more the track to a dancefloor environment, giving it an extra bassline and a different dancing appeal. So, get set for two great tunes, deep or groovy… it doesn’t matter as long as it’s good as this two are!
