Los Updates vs Argenis Brito EP

CS390668-01B-BIGArgenis Brito and Los Updates : two of the most distinguished exponents of chilean dance music armada get together on glorious vinyl . Argenis , born in Venezuela , was given a chilean club passport by Luciano,  Pier Bucci and Villalobos a long time ago due to his outstanding services as a producer , singer and overall party raiser. He met Los Updates‘s boss Jorge Gonzalez in New York in 1994 , while attending a Wu Tang Clan show and together with Dandy Jack , Tobias and Atom Heart did in 1997 “Gonzalo Martinez and His Thinking Congas” a visionary mix of cumbia and electronics . On this brand new release they tease us with “Valparaiso” and “Don‘t Take Candy From Strangers” … you can smell the delicious scent of an instant classic emanating from the wax.

Andrea Fiorito – Moderato Zoologico

Cyn42 label A copyAndrea Fiorito returns to Cynosure Recordings with another heater to get the summer started. Moderato Zoologico starts off with “Escape From Myself”, a fire starter of a groove with a slight nod to House Music’s past, the track’s percussion builds up to a climax and then drops you into a twisted state of Deepness.

“Zoraida” features the sweet and innocent vocal style of Amelia Saul, a slow builder of percussion leads you up to a plateau of shimmering deep synth and Rhodes electric piano that leaves you hanging for minutes, then dropping you into the blissful world of silky smooth Amelia Saul. As a Digi Bonus we have a cracked and crazy flamenco piano fueled techno number called “Jazzato Minimo”, insane just about sums it up. After listening you’ll have a clear peak into the warped mind of Andrea Fiorito, a producer that again delivers an original combination of style that breaks the genre norms.

Minimaland Feedback: Massive tunes by Andrea Fiorito, minimal dry techno demanding us to dance!

a1 - Escape From Myself
b1 - Zoraida featuring Amelia Saul
Digital only – Jazzato Minimo

Rodriguez Jr. – Princess Guacamole

LA066-2240pxA highly reputable artist with an equally impressive history as a producer, Rodriguez Jr is a prominent member of the Leena music catalogue. His debut on the imprint “Rubbo Swingo” received rave reviews as did his return a year later for Leena’s 11th release, “Kids of Hula”. 2010 has already witnessed big things from the Belgium based producer, such as “Jerri Call” with Alex Kid on NRK records as well as a handful of remixes including one for Dominik Eulberg on Traum records and Holger Zilske on Playhouse.
Now that he’s warmed up the dance floor with style, it’s time for his eagerly awaited debut on mobilee records, “Princess Guacomole”, which comes packed with energy ready to get the Summer parties rocking. Title track “Princess Guacomole” features a melodic and jazzy hook set over a driving and bouncy percussive bass. Meanwhile B side “La Guapa” will pick you up with by its hypnotic rift which builds up into a frenzy, whilst the digital exclusive serves as the anti-thesis with a deep house rolling percussive bass line and vocal. It’s an amazing debut for Rodriguez Jr on mobilee …. enjoy!

So Inagawa – Liquid EP

LR004 (Back)The fledgling Luna Records is rapidly gaining a reputation for quality underground house music having drafted in a raft of fresh talent and established names for original tracks and remixes. The recent single from So Inagawa, ‘Sputnik’, saw massive support from the likes of Xpress 2, Solomun, Ralph Lawson etc now this young Japanese talent follows up with wonderful ‘Liquid EP’.

Yosuke Sakurai the producer behind the So Inagawa Moniker has been producing for the last six years recording for labels such as Minimood & Multi Vitamins, he is also one part of the production team ‘The Suffragettes’ and when not in the studio runs Nagoya’s top techno night ‘Cabaret’.

The lead cut on this excellent new EP is entitled ‘Liquid’ and features the vocal talents of Yang H Yang who lends an ethereal edge with some subtle spacey vocals. The track is a warm mix of deep melodic elements and tight, understated rhythms, it’s a simple formula but one that works incredibly well and is done here to perfection.

Following on we have the techier sounds of ‘Kon Air’, providing a journey into the realms of tough percussive house with a definite techno edge. Low end bass and sparse rhythmic elements draw together with heavily effected vocal snippets to create a deep electronic groove that is perfectly accompanied by the rich & mellow keys, a class track through and through.

Finally Luna Records label boss Paul Bowen gets to grip with remixing ‘Liquid’ and delivers a dynamic mix with plenty of bass end and a superb skittering percussion track. This is a great alternative mix that retains much of the original character whilst adding its own distinct sound.

Minimaland Feedback: So Inagawa is a pretty recent producer in the scene but all his works till now are well above the average, with great quality of production. This EP released by Luna is the proof of this statement. The deep and fascinating “Liquid” is our favorite track but the other two are also pretty enjoyable.

And.Id – I Will Be There

Cover-065And.Id is an artist whose musical talents are impressively far-reaching, as his recent installment of the Back to Back series with Jazz interpretations of mobilee classics powerfully brought to everyone’s attention. After a long spell in the studio with his B.A.N.D and a variety of instruments, And.Id has gone solo for his next release. The exclusive track “She Was There” was a bomb, and now “I Was There” follows suit… but the question is where are they? The dance floor, which is where you will want to be when you spin this … Enjoy!

Butane + Someone Else – Little Helpers 05

little-helpers-05-webLittle Helpers is a conceptual digital label courtesy of Andrew Rasse (a.k.a. Butane) and Sean O’Neal (a.k.a. Someone Else) launched in December 2009. Each track is a strong, reduced groove-tool aimed to satisfy the increasing number of digital DJs. Much like the traditional lockgroove vinyl, these tracks are suitable for looping, editing and layering. Yet at the same time, each track has enough variation to stand on its own. That is, each tune lies somewhere between a full track and a DJ tool — focusing solely on the rhythm or a singular idea rather than extraneous arrangements. On Little Helpers 05, label owners Butane + Someone Else represent the Little Helpers label to its full potential with six groove-tool tracks — offering elements of techhouse, techno, minimal and deep house.

Minimaland Feedback: If you’re looking for some tools or like to listen some of the most cutting edge minimal techno produced out there then this is a must buy. All the tracks are very enthusiastic, have a great rhythm and some groovy progressions. This will make some wonders in the dancefloors.

Lauhaus – Bring It

-12inch_3mm_sleeveFor Remote Area’s 24th release we welcome back Amsterdam-based, DJ and producer, Lauhaus. Internationally known for his sounds as one half of Polder, his awesome solo productions also create a stir as he blends and clashes house and techno to produce his own exhilarating sound.
“Bring it” brings you a blend of digital vocals across disco feel undercurrents all pinned together with some hot percussive deep drum action. It’s guaranteed to bring the dance floor to a housey climax. Whereas “Moonshine” is a beautiful brew of unforgettable keyboard melodies that thread across, dive under and sweep over the driving beats and our favorite track of the Ep. “Cremita” brings nature to the fore with its relaxing vocals, bird song snippets and guitar riffs intertwined to create a chilled soundscape.

Minimaland Feedback: By now you should all know that both Remote Area and Lauhaus represent quality in the electronic musical world. Every thing this label launches is full of quality and every Lauhaus release follows the same pattern. This 3 track EP is a very exquisite one, with tunes to suit all of your different tastes, from the most deep  (you’ll certainly enjoy “Cremita”) to the most shaky dancefloor ones (”Bring It” is the one for you). Our fav  track – “Moonshine” –  stands in the middle of this two and it’s certainly a very nice one to be listened. Remote Area did it again.

Cobblestone Jazz – Chance

Plenty has happened since Cobblestone Jazz released their last album, 23 Seconds, in 2007. The group toured the world virtually non-stop, soaking up inspiration and refining its chops on stage and in the studio alike. Member Mathew Jonson moved from British Columbia to Berlin, setting up a studio headquarters spilling over with analog machines and oddball audio equipment.

chanceepAnd longtime friend and fellow traveler Colin de la Plante (aka the Mole), a collaborator with the Cobblestone trio in the live project The Modern Deep Left Quartet, became the official fourth member of Cobblestone Jazz’s studio lineup. Now, in anticipation of Cobblestone Jazz’s second album—appropriately enough, titled The Modern Deep Left Quartet—the group surfaces with a teaser 12″. “Chance Dub,” which opens the album, gives us a first taste of the gentler, more subdued sound that came out of last summer’s album sessions. In place of the monster riffs and psychedelic freakouts of tracks like “India in Me” and “Dump Truck” is something deeper, smoother, maybe more reflective. A lone chord progression leads the way, brooding but still nimble; around it build swelling synth pads, sub-bass pressure, sprightly bass sequences and of course the high-precision rhythm programming that gives the group such a formidable sense of funk. It’s a mellower side of Cobblestone Jazz, but it also displays the power of restraint. Mixed and recorded in real time, like all the band’s music, the track is always evolving and always in motion, but it never feels busy. It’s simply driving, sensual, properly analog house music, the way it was meant to be.

On the B-side, “Chance,” offers a radically different take on the same material. The groove remains the same, but in place of the looped chord changes of “Chance Dub,” Danuel Tate takes the lead on Rhodes piano, with a long, rippling solo that gives the tune its easy-going sense of exploration. That’s also Danuel behind the vocoder, dropping a haunting vocal melody that sinks deep into the subconscious. It’s as deep and as defiantly late-night as Cobblestone Jazz have ever gone. And it’s the perfect introduction for the rich, dynamic, all-encompassing album The Modern Deep Left Quartet—the next chapter in the Cobblestone saga.

Minimaland Feedback: Cobblestone Jazz ensure quality and this release is one of the strongest examples of that fact. This tracks has all you may require in music: progression, attitude, spirit, beat and lots of rhythm, also a brilliant artwork.  A must have, collectors stuff.
