The New CDJ 2000

Pioneer have released a video detailing the features of their new CDJ2000, and their music software package, Record Box. The new consoles traditional CDJ functionality, and introduces a number of new fuctions, including compatibility with portable music players via USB and SD. A new ‘Link’ function allows user to run up to four CDJs from one source. Watch the detailed demo

How is the new CDJ 2000 going to influence the industry and your creative talent? It has so many technical features what exactly can you do with it? Well we will lay it out in simple terms for you right here and once we get one in store for demo, you can visit our store in Newcastle for a hands on trial yourself.

How will this new player benefit you – the dj? …

cdj-2000Well, to put it simply you can play pretty much all formats of digital media, whether on CD, DVD or USB memory stick and SD Cards. Use the Pioneer ‘RekordBox’ software (Pioneer’s own ‘iTunes’ organisation software) to sort your collection and playlists on your computer at home, setup cue points and beatgrids in each track then transfer to your media storage of choice – CD, DVD, USB Stick or SD Card. Then you would simply turn up to the club with at least 2 CDJ2000’s installed and plug your USB stick in or CD in and read your tracks from the stick or CD on both players. No more carrying boxes of CD’s, bags or laptops. You could go out pubbing or clubbing before your set and just carry a memory stick or SD Card in your pocket and turn up at the club ready to go.

If you use Traktor or Serato then you can simply turn up with your laptop, connect the two players via USB and control your software without the need of timecode CD’s. Browse your tracks on the CDJ screens instead of the laptop where it displays all track information. You could probably just close the lid of the laptop so it looks like you aren’t even using a laptop.
Whilst in the mix and wanting to flick through a track, simply run your finger across the Needle Search strip under the screen (same as the Numark NS7 strip search feature) and watch the location marker visually on the waveform. No more winding the jog wheel to find your cue points.
