The 200th edition on Ovum Recordings couldn’t be forgotten by minimaland! The label founded by Josh Wink, back in 1994, is here to stay and this release is just another proof of that statement. Uk producer Ali Wells aka Perc was the producer invited for this special release and, as a key figure in the global techno scene, his delivery couldn’t be better. “Mathlete” is a great piece of rough underground minimal techno, as high and dry as you could get.
“Mathlete”, the first track of the Ep is pure straight techno with a 4 x 4 beat, a dark bassline and a couple of loops that seem to be feeding the beat along the music. This remind me a lot Richie Hawtin first productions. “Throb” follows the techno meltdown of the first. It’s my favorite pearl of this release… it starts with a dry beat and then some metallic snares and simple loops go entering one by one building a perfect industrial soundscape. Last but not the least comes the powerful “Math Beat” following the paths of the previous ones. A release to have and to be played in the best sound systems around the world. Played by Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Stefan Goldman and Sven Vath.
