In the last year, 2008, we reviewed ‘Mein Wahres Ich’, produced by this German artist and released trough Harthouse Mannheim. A year has passed and he comes back to minimaland in a shorter Extended Play compared with last year’s magnificent release. ‘Commander Tom EP’ is again released in the Mannheim imprint since Boris has a parallel path trough Harthouse and Autist (Berlin) imprints. As follower of his work, I noticed some differences in this work, establishing the comparison, as e.g. a rhythm slow down, and a stripped down melody pushing the listener to a more minimal environment when playing the 12”. ‘Commander Town’, first track where my needle drops, is grooved in perfection by a constant bassline and paused where it should be, adding the patterns and sample games as it grows in exact moments of recycled harmony. As much as I hear it, is as much I’m pretty sure will be present around in this summer parties. ‘The Signal’ it’s a glimpse of his evolution onto pure minimal frequencies as well as extremely enjoyable on a dance floor, capable of moving those static and exquisite brains. It seems that the embedded message it transmits transports the listener to all the signals that surround and alert us, undoubtly a great achievement by Boris. Finishing, “Space Invaders” enters the space thematic (and remembers the game), directed to those souls who like to navigate on their own space world while absorbing rhythms of strong feeling. A well explored track in the electronic harmony paragraph, featuring those “space” synths. As evolves we notice that this partial constant melody advances into a fixed turning point, adding an interesting progression.
