Sian – Red cloud

Biographically speaking, Graham Goodwin aka Sian is a Dublin native raised gypsy style in southern Spain. As a self confessed ‘workaholic-spaced-out-nature-junkie’, his commitment to the avant garde lifestyle has seen him grace decks at major clubs and festivals in the scene. He also released two albums and many singles on labels as diverse as Pokerflat, Dessous, Karmarouge, Dirtcrew, Octopus, Sci & tek, Defrag and Einmaleins, labels well know by us on the minimal land.

Sian really intends to prove something on his fourth release for Aus. Red Cloud is sublimaly delicate and still relies on powerful oscillator bass lines with wistful chords providing a rich melodic pattern with a constantly “haunted” backdrop foaus-0918-box-ad-1000x1000r its addictive undulating grooves.

For World Within A World, the first track, Sian steps up in a recognizable, yet still new territory, providing oscillated basslines and the lead melody that breaks at the first minute with a polished techno rhythm and drones that propel the track forward to provide a moment of euphoria, in part thanks to the drive sound working on the back with several influence on Detroit techno school. In the second track, Red Cloud, things go more in a derailed sensation even if the feeling transmited is more quietful and harmonic , but the drive, the push-forward addictive one, its still there. The remix is managed by a Minilogue more experiment orientated. Still sounds Minilogue, however, haves more a sense of start/growing than the usual as well as some fresh rythm patterns and details that reveals us a little derivation maintaining the basic “Minilogue engine” on its backwards, full and worked. A captivating 12 min arrangement. The gradual and constant changing of few elements builds and releases tension perfectly while the subtle detail in the rythm and the electronic melody combined with oscillation grooves acts to unsettle yet engage.

Minilogue – My Teenager Gang

Marcus Henriksson & Sebastian Mullaert got back to Mule Musiq to produce another dub minimal hit! After “Animals” we may think that they would slow down on production but that’s not what happened. In fact their first release of 2009 brings more from the same: strong drums, deep basslines and some neurotic keyboard effects gathered with carefully chosen samples. In the A side you will listen “My Teenager Gang”, a dubby track, charged with lot’s of bass and some tribal elements: some birds singing, conga rhythms and some great world music chants leading you to the impression that you’re on a music safary around Africa. They all combine perfectly in the whole 10 minutes of this great production, it’s really a master exotic techno dub cut. On the flip “Hundraelva” bets on other kind of roots where synths make the difference. This one reminds me a lot “Hitchhiker’s Choice” or some Cadenza productions, jazzy tones are everywhere getting along with some hypno plastic surfaces ready to terr u apart!
This two tracks are some of the reasons of why i love Minilogue. They are able to do such different things always with pure quality. Their background on Progressive Psychedelic Trance must have helped them to create such different and good environments. If you like pure music don’t miss this Ep.

Minilogue – Snake Charmer Ep

image-2When you listen Minilogue you’re ensured with quality above the average. All their releases have elements outside of the ordinary roots. After their tremendous album – Animals – it’s time to present another work from them. Snake Charmer – their new release on Wagon Repair -  is a pretty good Ep with two very different tracks. In the A side you have a groovy techno production, our favourite here in the minimaland, and in the b side you have a track turned to dub german influences, showing all the ways that this duo can explore. Snake Charmer is a very good track, one of the best that i listened from this guys so far this year… hypnotic melody, awesome percussions and the power of creating unique musical atmospheres that we so much appreciate. 10 minutes of pure enjoyment. Quality is ensured, this is another must have release, keep a copy in your files so you don’t forget this any more. Listen Minilogue’s music is cheaper than a therapist!

Press Release:
This latest offering is one hell of a coup, with Swedish techno forerunners Minilogue’s sophomore Wagon Repair release.

Following in the footsteps of 2007’s ‘Elephant’s Parade’, the Malmo duo have also released on such luminary labels as Cocoon, Crosstown Rebels and Traum Schallplatten. They have recently received critical acclaim for their artist album ‘Animals’ and jazz fusion album as IMPS on Japan’s Mule imprint.

As ever, this release is laden with the kind of warped sounds and dense textures that have become their signature. Always pushing the envelope, Minilogue transcend expectations with every release.

Opener ‘Snake Charmer’ incorporates ghostly eastern flute sounds into a tribal percussive drive. Wisps of warped synth and trace pulsed tones encircle the central beat, recoiling into dreamy ambience before biting with thudding bass kick and disorienting melodic keys. Cunning and slick, the subtle but purposeful attack of this track befits it’s title.

On the flip, ‘Urban Slough’ is a deep techno gem. Driven by droning synth and reverborated percussion, decaying melodies develop slowly while meandering in and out of tune. Staying true to their consistently apocalyptic vision, this mix of slightly industrial beats and howling tune is a melancholy masterpiece.

Tracklisting:
a1 – Snake Charmer
b1 – Urban Slough

Minilogue – Leopard (Extrawelt remix)

Great 2006 original from Minilogue. The trackilisting was Leopard and Seconds. Extrawelt, one of the most emotional producers and remixers, grabed Leopard to a new mean…
