Nick Curly – Pujante Ep

Here we don’t need to introduce anymore to mister Nick Curly. We follow is work for a few years and who want to collect more data on him can check the web or our search tool in the website.

nick-curly-pujante-coverWhen we have a Nick Curly release, either from himself or a remix where he put his hands on, or even a release on his label, it’s always an anctious belly feeling kicking around the minimaland. As precise as he can be, delivers a first ‘Pujante’, which in spanish means “Powerfull”. Well, it’s not so powerfull in the real sense of the word, but more kind of a masterpiece inside Curly’s world. A typical progressive track inside Nick style, layered with a pretty amount of details, enough to make you feel everything its connected in some way.. and it is! As always, an extreme sense of break on the track helps the construction and powerfull bassline keeps progressing the track up and up till a point where there’s no up or extreme discharge, only a good mood and a full enjoyment on all the frequences the track moves. ‘New Town Stranger’, second track on the Ep, really means an Extended play. It’s 12 min of “Cadenza”, where Nick shows why it’s such an amout of fuzzz around his name. Diversity is a word here, and if you can fit the first track on a growing mood, this one is more a reflexive minimal track, bpm’s down and spiced with incoming groove and details along the path combining a distorted voice, based on the classic house school, where the voice makes the history on the stranger. Well, he, Nick Curly, it’s not for sure a stranger on this land and this is probably why Sven Väth invited him not only to make an EP on Cocoon Recordings but also for a performance at the Cocoon night at super club Amnesia in Ibiza.

Nick Curly – Series 1.1

cs347855-01b-big8Bit Records has just released another massive release this time with their owner leading the decks. If you didn’t knew that Nick Curly is the label head of 8Bit you probably don’t know that he is also the founder of Cécille Records imprint, and this are definitely two of the hottest labels of the market. All their releases have top quality and this one confirms that pattern. The first Nick Curly Series bring us two strong tracks that were already supported by Dj’s like Ricardo Villalobos, Tiefschwarz, 2000&One, Sis, Johnny D, Gregor Tresher, Anthony Collins, Markus Fix, Livio & Roby, Boris Werner and Ray Okpara (…among others). Side A comes with a pumpy fresh tech house groove along with some jazzy elements that will leave the crowd delighted. Side B get’s even better, minimaland’style. It starts pretty deep and calm but the patterns go growing and growing like if there’s no tomorrow. “4711″ will be a sweet candy to all party’s and specially morning after-party’s. Released two days ago, hot!

Cherry – Alex Ep (Nick Curly/Ruthit Rmx)

Spring is knocking at the door, and what better Ep to preview than this “Alex Ep” wich transmits undoubtly that spring feeling, in the form of Japanese artist, Cherry (aka Teruyuki Kurihara) who claims a detailed following over the next times.

cherry400x400The original of ‘Alex’ combines simple arpeggiated melody and a resonant sine-wave bassline to create an understated yet beautiful techno cut which fits perfectly that dawn in the beach after a great night. It reminds a little bit Lawrence’s work a few years ago, like “Spark” featuring that emotional feeling music. Beautiful. Nick Curly treads his trademark, groovy house path and does so impeccably with energetic builds and subtle drops which make for a brilliant peak time cut. New Four:Twenty signing Ruthit delivers a classic deep house interpretation which oozes class and suggests big things for his future.

Cherry’s originals continue the evolution, putting up a gear, with “Cocona“,  and continue the stripped, melodic theme superbly without falling into repetition,
While “D2” and “Hope” have a darker, sinister edge reminiscent of the likes of Robert Hood they’re balanced nicely by tracks such as “Momo” and “Cocona” which have an “uppier” feel.“I Hope” and closing track “Smoke” tip further nods to Detroit minimalism, with extra energy flowing from “Smoke” basslines and some disfunctional electronic xylophone distorted sounds from time to time.

Yet have a distinctly European sound and progression resulting in really engaging pieces, particularly when remembering Cherry (aka Teruyuki Kurihara) is from neither region.
Backed with remixes from Mannheim producer de jour Nick Curly and forthcoming Four:Twenty talent, Ruthit, the ‘Alex EP’ weighs in with eight, sublime slices of electronic body music.
Yet again, Four:Twenty throw their music policy wide open for this extended player, a format which the label seem to be embracing whole heartedly to a warm reception from industry and punters alike.

Mobilee Back to Back Remixes Part I & II

Mobilee Back to Back lovers looking to take a lick from the ladle of Miss Jools’ upcoming Back to Back Vol. 3 compilation CD are in store for some extra flavor stirred in from vol. 3 remix artists, Nick Curly and Efdemin (mobilee 048) and D´Julz and Christian Burkhardt (mobilee 049). This 4 amazing producers deliver some of the most refined mnml u can have! Massive production, unmissable to all our readers

Nick Curly of 8Bit and Cécille Records boldly pulls the background beats of “Diva” forward, creating an explosion of cheerful melody. A central figure of the Mannheim sound, Curly has a knack for fresh releases and trippy sound. The B-side of this teaser welcomes Efdemin remixing „Moved feat. Prosumer“, a track softly bringing deeper, loungy house melodies into swing. While some artists only go skin deep, Efdemin goes deeper with a sense of detail and abstractness. Both artists have finely remixed the cream of the crop of Sebo K’s best releases. ”Diva” (mobilee043) received widespread acclaim from a variety of publications, placing in Resident Advisor’s ”Top 30 tracks of 2008,’ in Mixmag at 25, Beatportal at four and in Beatport as the eighth ranking house track of the year. “Moved feat. Prosumer” was placed at number 14 in De:Bug back in 2006. The carefully hand-picked Sebo K tracks are just an exclusive teaser for what’s in store for the entire CD (Mobilee Back to Back Vol. 3)

tracklisting:

a1. Sebo K – Diva (Nick Curly Remix)
b1. Sebo K – Moved feat. Prosumer (Efdemin Remix)

Mobilee#048
Rls Date: 16.02.2009

D’Julz of Ovum, Pokerflat and Intacto Records remixed GummiHz’s 2007 one-of-kind release and turned it into nothing short of a dance floor phenomenon. Of course, nothing less could be expected from a man who has been around the world and back since 1992 playing in the most legendary clubs before the most legendary scensters. D’Julz certainly has the qualification and experience of what it takes to make a party a paaarty!
Christian Burkhardt of Oslo, raum…musik and Remote Area Records took one of Anja Schneider’s more mellow and somber tunes from her spooky Beyond the Valley album, which ranked third in the charts of Groove Magazine, and give it a powerful face lift. The hard baseline and repetitive foot-stomping beat is exactly the kind of techno flair that Burkhardt embodies in his music.

b1. Anja Schneider – Get Away (Christian Burkhardt Remix)

Nick Curly – Critical Mass Ep

critical-mass-ep Nick Curly was considered by one of our members (Flow) one of the producers of the year and there’s no doubt that he has had an huge year, full of nice releases – “Dubnoise Ep” or If U Like Ep – and he is also the owner of Cecille Records, label that has been getting an enormous projection over 2008. In his last work of the year he presents a quite good Ep filled with two original tracks and a remix done by Geddes. In the a side you will listen a perfect “Critical Mass”, a track with a nice melodic loop and some genuine deep house tools flavored up with a nice pumpy beat and a really good bassline. It’s a track that will work perfectly in an after-hours session. B side shows up some different clicks, more turned up to what we consider to be minimal techy sounds. The beat is far more dry and the construction much more simple. “Kalimba” is a track to fulfill everyone’s taste. It’s being supported by Lemos, Villalobos and Raresh, among others. It is a perfect example of the most trendy mnml nowadays, and the one that gets more support in the dancefloors. The remix of this was done by Geddes, the man behind the Mulletover warehouse parties of London, and he shows up a more urban rhythm, more stylish but not as effective. We really support this Ep, it’s a very nice one to offer this New Years Eve… released on Murmur Records.

Nick Curly – Dubnoise Ep

Every new season we seem to acquire new tastes, new flavours and passions. In musical terms, in the last 3 or 4 months, Cecille Records has represented all those sensations to me. They brought up, in their first two releases, two of my favourite producers at the moment – Lemos and Kreon – and since then I’ve been paying a dedicated attention to every release this awesome label has! In their 6th Ep they managed to have one of their founders to follow up their pack of releases. This guy has been in the scene for like a decade now and but he only started to produce back in 2005 and now he creates to his own label. Dubnoise Ep it’s his 5th release in this year and it’s a pretty good rally of deep minimal touches. This release has been played in the dancefloors by guys like Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Raresh, Johnny D, André Galluzzi and Gregor Tresher among others, it has 3 nice musics, all of them perfectly produced.
In the A-Side the German presents us “Happy Five” and “Dubnoise” – the first one has a fine groovy beat with lots of fresh sounds perfectly suitable for the summer  and the second bets more on deep flavours, twisted and tripped sounds and on a dub beat that will delight all of you. Finally, in the B-Side, we have a delightful  “Somewhere in Berlin” that will surprise you by it’s dry beat and a tremendous hypnotic deep groove turning this music into the most fitful to my standards. So people, this is a “not to miss” Ep, if you are interested into this things more than the ordinary people, please buy it, listen it, whatever… just don’t stay out of it! Mind blowing sounds and deep grooves it’s what Cecille Records has been giving to us, and this is not an exception… hope you enjoy!
